Orange Pi has had a relatively quiet start to the year, having presented various single-board computers (SBCs) throughout 2024. Some of its 2024 announcements have not entered production yet either, such as the RISC-V based Orange Pi RV.
Nonetheless, the company has now introduced a successor of sorts, which is already available globally. On the face of it, the Orange Pi RV2 looks a lot like last year's Orange Pi RV. However, a second Gigabit Ethernet port has been added within the SBC's 89 x 56 mm form factor, as well as a pair of M.2 connectors that support up to PCIe 2.0 x2.
Arguably, the biggest change is the adoption of a new RISC-V chipset. For reference, Orange Pi announced the original RV with a quad-core StarFive JH7110. By contrast, the RV2 uses an octa-core Ky X1 alternative that also contains an AI accelerator with up to 2 TOPS of theoretical performance at its disposal.
Moreover, the RV2 features HDMI and USB Type-A ports, along with MIPI-CSI and MIPI-CSI connectors. On top of that, Orange Pi has included a 26-pin expansion header and a MicroSD card reader. Currently, the Orange Pi RV2 can be ordered for about $29.50 with 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM on AliExpress; Orange Pi charges more on Amazon for some reason. Alternatively, Orange Pi offers 4 GB and 8 GB variants for $39.50 and $49.50, respectively. Please see Orange Pi's website for more details.
