The Orange Pi 4 Pro is a new single-board computer and should be well-suited for various use cases. However, it may not necessarily be a system for casual users. Using it as a desktop system is certainly possible as long as users can handle the Linux-based operating system.
That said, the Raspberry Pi 5 rival offers HDMI 2.0 for 4K video output at 60H, while the Allwinner A733 SoC packs two Cortex-A76 and six Cortex-A55 cores. It also features up to 16GB LPDDR5 memory. Additionally, the eMMC storage offers 16, 32, 64 or 128GB of capacity. A regular microSD card slot is available, but users can also connect an M.2 SSD via PCIe 3.0.
Like the Raspberry Pi 5 (16GB model from $119 on Amazon), the new Orange Pi SBC has a color-coded pin header for hooking up sensors and actuators. Moreover, cameras can be connected via MIPI CSI and a display via MIPI DSI. An NPU with 3 TOPS is onboard as well, and even though this is not much performance by modern standards, it might be enough to analyze images or a live feed with an AI model, for example.
Either way, network connections can be established via Gigabit Ethernet or wirelessly via WiFi 6. Bluetooth 5.4 can be useful for connecting accessories like a keyboard and mouse. Last but not least, the Orange Pi 4 Pro measures 3.5 x 2.2 inches and comes with one USB 3.0 and three USB 2.0 ports.
