Vivo has updated its tablet series with the Vivo Pad 5e. Available in China for the time being, the Vivo Pad 5 combines a Qualcomm 8s Gen 3 chipset, a 10,000 mAh battery and a 144 Hz display to rival the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro, among other upper mid-range tablets.

Vivo has launched a new high-end tablet in China, the first since the Pad 5 that arrived in the spring. This time, the company has introduced the Pad 5e, whose existence was initially rumoured in June. As pre-release leaks suggested, Vivo has departed from the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ it uses in the Pad 5.

Instead, it has opted for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 that we have already reviewed inside the Honor MagicPad 2, Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro (curr. $587 on Amazon) and a smattering of upper mid-range smartphones. Additionally, the Vivo Pad 5e features a 12.05-inch IPS display within a 6.62 mm housing, making it a candidate to rival the latest iPad Air series in the process.

For reference, the mid-sized display outputs natively at 1,968 x 2,800 pixels with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 900 nits peak brightness. Moreover, the Pad 5e contains a 10,000 mAh battery, which contributes to its 584 g overall weight.

#Unfortunately, the Pad 5e runs OriginOS 5 rather than the new OriginOS 6. Nonetheless, we would expect Vivo to update the Pad 5e to OriginOS 6 at some stage. The Vivo Pad 5e starts at CNY 1,999 (~$280) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage in a choice of five colours. Alternatively, the tablet can be configured with up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for CNY 2,999 (~$420). Vivo has not indicated whether it plans to sell the Pad 5e globally yet, though.
