A survey conducted last month by World.org has revealed that the majority of gamers regularly run into unauthorized bots during their playtime. The online study queried 818 adults in the US who play multiplayer games on mobile devices, PC, or consoles.
Other key findings include:
- 59% of gamers report that they regularly encounter unauthorized, third-party bots in games
- 71% of gamers say bots are ruining multiplayer competition
- 74% of gamers say bots are making it less fun to play certain games
- 18% of gamers have stopped playing a game entirely in response to bots
- 75% of those who game 10+ hours a week would prefer the use of biometric technology to verify humanity in games
- 77% of gamers across generational demographics agree on the importance of proving one’s humanity online
In response to the growing concerns, World.org and Razer have teamed up to create "Razer ID verified by World ID" which utilizes new single sign-on (SSO) technology designed specifically for games to verify real human players. The first title to integrate the feature will be upcoming competitive game Tokyo Beast.
Details are otherwise scarce on how long the SSO tech will remain exclusive to Razer ID. If it proves successful, we suspect that SSO could eventually make its way to more established competitive titles.
