Qualcomm may have had a shaky start last year with its lineup of AI-ready Snapdragon-powered laptops, but that's not stopping them from doubling down on the successful Snapdragon brand. The chipmaker has announced at GDC this year the availability of the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 series alongside a handful of new handhelds that will take advantage of the new offering.
Firstly, the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 series is distinct from the Snapdragon 8, X, Elite, or XR2 series in that it was designed specifically for handheld gaming consoles. It succeeds the Snapdragon G3 Gen 2 currently available on handhelds like the Ayaneo Pocket S with 30 percent improved performance and hardware-accelerated RT and upscaling.
Ayaneo will again be one of the first manufacturers to utilize the new Snapdragon SoC in its upcoming Pocket S2 and Gaming Pad consoles coming this March and May, respectively. The OneXSugar Sugar1 will follow shortly thereafter with its unique detachable second screen and Nintendo DS-like design.
