In January, Lenovo announced the Legion Go S, a SteamOS-equipped follow-up to its Legion Go handheld. Now, the device is available for preorder on Best Buy ahead of its official launch in May 25, 2025, with a $50 price increase over initial expectations.
The higher-end Legion Go S model is priced at $749.99 and features an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, 32GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 1TB SSD storage. It comes with an 8-inch 120Hz IPS LCD touchscreen, which is smaller than its predecessor, and has two USB-C ports. The jump to 32GB of RAM is a major improvement over the previous Legion Go’s 16GB RAM limit, which will ease multitasking and improve system performance for demanding games.
The base model is available for $549.99 and comes with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB SSD storage. Like the high-end model, it features the same 8-inch 120Hz IPS LCD touchscreen. Compared to its predecessor, this variant trades the Ryzen Z1 series for the newer AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip. It is based on AMD's Zen 3+ architecture and features four Zen 3+ cores clocked up to 4.3GHz, along with 12 RDNA 2 GPU cores. It also supports USB 4 (40Gbps), PCIe Gen 4, and LPDDR5-6400 RAM, allowing for improved connectivity and bandwidth compared to older AMD handheld chips.
While the Legion Go S was initially expected to launch at a lower price point ($499.99), the $50 price increase is now confirmed with the Best Buy listing. The SteamOS version will be a direct competitor to the Steam Deck, with a Linux-based gaming experience on both handhelds.
Both models are set for a May 25, 2025 release, with preorders now live. Compared to the original Legion Go, these new models introduce a more power-efficient design, increased RAM options, and native SteamOS support. Best Buy is also bundling a free 1-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a 60-day Crunchyroll Mega Fan trial for new subscribers with every preorder.
