One of the solutions manufacturers have come up with to extend battery life is by adding a battery charge limit feature that allows users to set a charging limit. When activated, the device usually stops charging at the 80% mark, thus slowing down battery degradation. In its latest beta client update, Valve has now added a battery charge limit feature to the Steam Deck.
According to the changelog, Steam Deck owners running the beta build will now be able to set a maximum charge limit. The feature is reported to be beneficial for long term battery health and will particularly be useful for those who leave their Steam Deck constantly plugged in or docked. The battery charge limit function can be found under Power in Settings. Rival handheld, the Lenovo Legion Go (curr. available on Best Buy for $599.99) also has a battery charge limiting function that can be turned on under Legion Space.
In addition to the battery charge limit feature, the update also moves some settings around such as Show Battery Percentage which can be found under the Power menu. Display Dim and Suspend timeout are also under Power now. The issue with pasting from the on-screen keyboard has also been fixed as well as a DualSense Edge gyroscope-related bug.
