The developer of Furi Demake - The Chain has announced that the free game will soon transition to paid. This will allegedly expand the reach on Steam, allowing more potential players to discover this well-rated hack-and-slash title.

Furi Demake - The Chain launched on Steam in November 2023, and so far, it has garnered quite a player base. This free game currently has over 300 player reviews, and it has a "Very Positive" rating. It even has the Steam Deck Verified compatibility rating. However, this freebie won't remain $0 for long. As the last announcement from the dev states, it will transition to paid on June 23, 2025.

In the announcement, the developer stated that free games can only be a part of a limited number of Steam events and fests. This restriction will supposedly be lifted with the transition, and with that, the dev hopes to expand the reach of this currently free game.

As for the game itself, Furi Demake - The Chain is a retro-inspired title that's developed by a solo developer Sylph. It's the dev's version of the first boss fight from the well-acclaimed action game named Furi. In this demake, the dev transforms the original's intense 3D boss battle into a fast-paced but 2D side-scrolling fight.

The description of the free game states that each battle can last anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes. However, it's replayable, as there's a ranking system, and players can make the boss battle more challenging by switching to harder difficulties.

Visual-wise, this free game on Steam features vibrant neon colors, and the pixel arts have high contrast. With this, the dev wants to offer the same gameplay experience as the action games from the 90s. There's also a retro soundtrack by ODD, which enhances the 8-bit experience.

Not all reviews about Furi Demake - The Chain are positive, though. Some players noted that the controls feel a bit janky, while some criticized the small size of the arena. You can learn more about this currently free game on Steam from the video attached below.
