The Asus ROG Ally X and regular Asus ROG Ally are popular gaming handhelds, the former left a decent impression in our in-depth review. The Ally X sports some improvements in comparison to the base model, such as faster RAM and a significantly higher battery capacity for longer runtimes.
With the Jsaux Battery & Thermal Upgrade Kit, the original version of the gaming handheld can now be upgraded relatively easily. We’ve already reported that the new battery increases the capacity by over 50%, from 40Wh to 65Wh to be more exact. For comparison, the Asus ROG Ally X has a whopping 80Wh. Nonetheless, the upgrade kit should noticeably improve battery life of the original variant.
A video published by Jsaux is embedded below and shows the upgrade process in detail. Even moderately skilled gamers shouldn’t have too many issues with installing the kit, although there are some pitfalls. For instance, the handheld’s case has to be opened, but all necessary tools are included in the kit and the project purportedly takes less than 15 minutes overall. The upgrade kit also includes the new battery and an additional heatsink, which contributes to the improved cooling. Furthermore, the backplate has to be replaced since the original one will not fit after the upgrade.
The Jsaux Battery and Thermal Upgrade Kit for the Asus ROG Ally is now available for preorder for $79. Shipping is scheduled to kick off in early May.
