It turns out that the RG34XX SP was right around the corner after all, with Anbernic teasing last month that it had another ten gaming handhelds in the works for this year. To recap, rumours about Anbernic creating a new gaming handheld with the form factor closer to that of the original Game Boy Advance SP (GBA SP) surfaced in late January. More recently, leaked specifications turned up online shortly after Anbernic released the RG557.
Now, the company has officially revealed the RG34XX SP via the video embedded below. As always, it has started out by confirming the handheld's design rather than providing a full specification list. Nonetheless, we can infer a few details from the video below.
For example, references to PS1, PSP and N64 emulation capabilities suggest that Anbernic has equipped the RG34XX SP with the same Allwinner H700 chipset used in the RG35XX SP (curr. $78.99 on Amazon). Therefore, we would not be surprised to see the RG34XX SP lining up with 1 GB of RAM, too.
As expected, the RG34XX SP features the 3.4-inch display from the existing RG34XX. Consequently, the former will offer a 720 x 480-pixel native resolution with a 3:2 aspect ratio for a 3x native integer scaling when emulating GBA games. Another big change over the RG35XX SP is the inclusion of dual joysticks, presumably in response to the existence of the Miyoo Flip. Anbernic has not confirmed a release date yet, although we doubt that it will leave that detail about its latest gaming handheld to speculation for long.
