Kit & Krysta haven't always approved of how Nintendo is marketing its new console. Many criticisms have focused on a lack of communication over the Switch 2 price and the cost of games. However, on a recent podcast, the former Nintendo PR managers praised the collection of Switch 2 launch titles. While there is an emphasis on third-party games, the overall lineup is diverse enough to encourage early adopters.
The podcast discussed how, like the original Switch, Nintendo is focusing on a single first-party game. In 2017, most pre-release videos featured The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Eight years later, Mario Kart World is the headliner and is part of a Switch 2 bundle. With the previous console, Nintendo had to convince Wii U owners to purchase a hybrid handheld. Switch 2 launch titles entice Switch owners to convert to a similar but upgraded console. Backward compatibility is another advantage that the Wii U lacked.
When looking back at the Switch release, there were nine launch games, or ten if the two Shovel Knight titles are counted individually. With the Switch 2 games, buyers have over 20 selections. Switch 2 Edition titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with improved performance are part of the list. Also, Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion Pack subscribers can enjoy newly added GameCube favorites.
Popular third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy will debut with Nintendo's latest console. With improved Switch 2 specs, resource-intensive titles are finally an option. Still, Kit & Krysta noted that many of these titles have been out on other platforms for several years.
The impact of tariffs has somewhat spoiled the hype surrounding Nintendo's handheld. As impressive as the Switch 2 launch titles are, pricing and pre-order dates are uncertain for North American buyers.
