Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US were delayed due to tariffs and now Canada is facing the same fate. The handheld was said to be available for pre-order in Canada starting April 9, just like the US, but it has now been indefinitely postponed, just like the US. Nintendo has not shared when the Switch 2 will be available for pre-order in either of the countries.
According to Mobile Syrup, Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the Switch 2 will not go live in Canada on April 9 “in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.” More information will be provided at a later date but launch date of June 5 remains unchanged, for now.
The reason for the delay in pre-orders in the US was the tariffs as the company felt it needed to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” Canada’s pre-order delay is not really a big surprise as it is among the major countries that has been impacted by the tariffs imposed by President Trump’s administration.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $450 in the US with the Mario Kart World bundle priced at $500. For the Canadian market, the console is priced at 630 CAD while the bundle costs 700 CAD. The company is still sticking with the June 5 launch date, which suggests that it expects the tariff induced chaos and associated pricing concerns to simmer down by then.
Despite the tariffs, the Switch 2 has been estimated to become the fastest selling console ever with 15 million units sold in 2025 itself, even though sales will start half-way into the year.
