While the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement was divisive in its own right, there's no dearth of Nintendo fans who were ready to pre-order the console. Gamers looking to snag one in the United States may have to wait a while. A company spokesperson issued the following statement:
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date.
Initially, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders were supposed to kick off on April 9 in the US. Now, there's no telling when that will happen. However, the console's June 5 launch date remains unchanged. There's a non-zero chance that could be pushed back if the tariff situation gets muddied further.
Plus, there's a high chance of the Nintendo Switch 2 costing even more due to said tariffs. Many considered $450 to be unusually high, and a further price increase will put the console beyond the reach of even more gamers.
