The Nintendo Switch 2 comes with many upgrades, and among them is the increased storage size which can be described as a massive bump from the 32GB of its predecessor (64GB of the OLED model) to 256GB. Many have assumed that the larger storage size is to make up for the Switch 2 Games which will reportedly have bigger file sizes. However, new info has revealed that while the file sizes are indeed large, they are not unreasonably so.
According to an IGN report, the Nintendo Japan store has listed some of the Switch 2's games along with their respective file sizes. The games and their file sizes are listed below:
- Mario Kart World — 23.4GB
- Donkey Kong Bananza — 10GB
- Nintendo Classics: GameCube app — 3.5GB
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV — 7.7GB
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World — 5.7GB
- Cyberpunk 2077 — 64GB
Based on the list above, the file sizes can be described as reasonable, save for Cyberpunk 2077 which is unsurprisingly the largest. Switch 2 owners should have enough storage for several games before they need to purchase a MicroSD Express card.
It is believed that the Nintendo Switch 2 uses DLSS which uses AI to upscale lower resolution images in real-time for better image quality which is why its games can have small file sizes but still offer high resolution. Nintendo itself confirmed that the Switch 2 has a GPU that uses AI upscaling via DLSS and ray tracing.
The Switch 2 is powered by a custom Nvidia processor with an Nvidia GPU. It brings features such as 1080p gameplay at 120fps in handheld mode and 4K gameplay in TV mode. It also has support for HDR.
