Nintendo has already confirmed that save data from the Switch can be transferred over to the Switch 2 and players can continue their in-game journey on the new console. However, it seems like cloud backup is not available for every game.

There has been a bit of confusion about the Switch 2 Edition games that are supposed to be upgraded and optimized versions of the original Switch games. Adding to the confusion is support for cloud saves, or lack thereof. It looks like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will not support save data cloud backup feature that is part of the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership.

First spotted by a user over at ResetEra, the European store pages for some of the Switch 2 Edition games stated that they will not support cloud backup of save data that is typically included with the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership. The user reportedly spotted the disclaimer in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Party Jamboree pages. On the other hand, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Kirby and the Forgotten Land did not have any such disclaimer.

It looks like those European pages, for the most part, have been seemingly updated and the disclaimer has been removed from all but one game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It could be that Nintendo is in the process of updating these pages and that it was a marketing error in the first place. However, it is interesting that all other game pages have been updated except for the Tears of the Kingdom page. Additionally, this page does not have the "Nintendo Switch Online features supported" badge like the others do. Notably, the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond page does not have the badge or the disclaimer.

The user also noted that the Japanese pages for these games did not have any such disclaimer either.

If somehow this was not an error and Tears of the Kingdom actually does not support cloud save backup, this would mean that the progress that players make in the Switch 2 Edition game will not be saved in the cloud, but only locally. Additionally, if players start a new game, they will not be able to backup their saves.

Again, it could just be an error and Nintendo may be in the process of fixing it, but at the time of writing, the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition store page has this disclaimer: “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.”
