Nintendo has officially confirmed the lead actors for the live-action Legend of Zelda film, planned for a 2027 release. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto himself announced the lead pair on X.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, best known for Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor, will be playing Link. He has appeared in various Disney projects such as Flora & Ulysses and voiced the main character in the live-action Pinocchio film. He also essayed a small role in Netflix's well-received The Sandman.
Joining him as Zelda will be Bo Bragason, who is best known for her work in the BBC series Three Girls, the film Censor, the BBC crime drama The Jetty, and the Disney+ series Renegade Nell. This is the biggest project both actors have been attached to so far, though they have a solid body of work to back them up.
The movie was officially announced in 2023 and is being produced by Miyamoto and Avi Arad, the former CEO of Marvel Studios. Nintendo will split financing costs with Sony Pictures, which will handle distribution.
Dereck Connolly, who has written Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, and Detective Pikachu, will be penning the screenplay while Wes Ball, who previously worked on the Maze Runner films, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will take the director's chair.
