After years of waiting and a plethora of leaks, Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2 in January 2025 with the full launch set for June 5, 2025. We got a full Switch 2 overview trailer earlier this month. Extended coverage of the console also showed exclusive games like the new Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, and more.
All in all, the Nintendo Switch 2 looks like a system that gamers were asking for, at least from the hardware and performance perspective. What’s more, it appears gamers won’t have to fight tooth and nail to get their hands on the Switch 2 at launch as the latest rumors suggest Nintendo has prepared plenty of stock for the launch.
Nintendo Switch 2 launch stock
Nintendeal, a leaker with a good track record, has alleged on X that “most GameStop stores are expecting” to get around 100 units of the Switch 2 at launch. This appears to be an average count, meaning that bigger outlets will receive more stock than smaller ones.
On the surface, the allocation of just 100 Nintendo Switch 2 units seems low. However, Nintendeal explains that this number is “a lot more basically than any other console launch ever”.
So, if you're worried about not being able to buy a Switch 2, it appears that there is no reason to fret, as there will be enough Switch 2 consoles to go around. What you do need to worry about, however, is the availability of the Switch 2 accessories and physical games.
According to Nintendeal, the Switch 2 games and accessories will be “extremely limited” at launch. Accessories like the Switch 2 Pro Controller could, therefore, be hard to get. Fortunately, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is fully compatible with the Switch 2. There are also plenty of third-party, Nintendo-licensed Pro Controllers on the market that cost less than the $80 Switch 2 Pro Controller.
In the end, it remains to be seen whether this purported supply is enough to justify the demand of the Switch 2. If you want to guarantee yourself a Switch 2 come June 5th, pre-order links are now live at GameStop. You can also sign up with Nintendo to register for a Switch 2, following which Nintendo will offer you a chance to buy the console once available.
