The Nintendo Direct provided a Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade release date for the Switch 2 and Xbox. Even so, some gamers find a Square Enix social media post more significant. The company signaled that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Part 3 may launch without PlayStation exclusivity.

The September 12th Nintendo Direct provided another glimpse at Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. Gamers now know that the Switch 2 game will debut on the handheld on January 22nd, 2026. However, Square Enix has since revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the untitled Part 3 are coming to multiple platforms. The Final Fantasy games will ship for the Switch 2, Xbox, and PC, raising the possibility of simultaneous release.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Rebirth are already available on the PS5 and Steam. Still, Square Enix launched the titles as timed PlayStation exclusives. Both Square Enix and Sony have stated their intentions to move toward a multi-platform approach. Now, fans of Final Fantasy games are wondering if Part 3 will no longer be locked to a Sony console on day one.

Sadly, the Square Enix social media post doesn’t narrow down the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release date. NateTheHate2 gave a hint when he confirmed that the remake would land on the Switch 2 and Xbox in 2026. If the game reaches all platforms by the end of 2026, that may surprise some fans. There was a longer gap between PC versions for the first two entries in the remake trilogy.

One argument against a simultaneous multi-platform release may be long development cycles. The Square Enix and PlayStation strategy shifts are relatively recent changes. To meet the 2026 prediction, Square Enix would have had to start working on the ports for the Xbox and Switch 2 games with the new timeframes in mind.

Xbox gamers will also be able to access Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on January 22nd. Another detail about the Xbox version is that the game will be Play Anywhere compatible.
