For whatever reason, it seems Digital Foundry is doing a better job at making the PlayStation 5 Pro look appealing than Sony itself. The publication's recently uploaded YouTube video delivers an analysis of the PS5 Pro's commendable improvements over the base PS5 in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, making a solid case for the PS5 Pro's existence.

Sony's widely anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro console was launched to a mixed reception, with the gaming community widely criticizing the console's elevated $699 price tag and lack of upgrades to the Zen 2 CPU.

That being said, there have been several experts on the matter who have taken a more positive approach to the PS5 Pro. Digital Foundry, for instance, argued that the PS5 Pro's equivalent PC build would be "a fair bit more" expensive

Sony's 'big three' improvements to the PS5 Pro, include the 45% faster GPU, Deep Learning-based PSSR upscaling tech, and improved ray-tracing capabilities. Whether or not the aforementioned trio will succeed in ensuring the PS5 Pro's success, remains to be seen.

The marketing materials and demos shared by Sony during the official launch event hosted by Mark Cerny were hardly any good at portraying the fidelity improvements. However, more early gameplay footage shared by Sony with Digital Foundry reveals some substantial differences between the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

In 'Performance' mode, the PS5 Pro runs the game at a stable 60 fps with crisp visuals. The base PS5's performance mode struggles with blurry textures, ghosting, and poor particle effect clarity during the combat scenes. Comparatively, the PS5 Pro significantly improves details, including fine textures such as hair strands and foliage.

In the more visuals-oriented 'Graphics' mode, the PS5 Pro delivers a relatively sharp image with much better frame stability. Some temporal instability and minor artifacts are noticeable, which is to be expected from the machine learning-powered PSSR upscaling. However, the experience is far better than what was possible with the base PS5 (currently $449 on Amazon). Even in demanding sequences, the PS5 Pro maintains a rock-solid 60 fps while the base PS5 consistently drops frames.
