Insider hints PS5 Pro can easily reach 120 fps at 1440p with optimizations and PSSR

Sony's latest PS5 Pro console has received a rather contentious launch, to say the least. With an eye-watering $699 starting price, the PS5 Pro packs the same Zen 2-based CPU as the base PS5 but ups the ante with a GPU that promises a 45% improvement in performance. To make matters worse, Sony's official demos portrayed very marginal improvements in fidelity and performance.

A recent analysis by Digital Foundry revealed that the PS5 Pro does indeed improve upon the PS5 quite significantly, as suggested by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's gameplay, which, according to DF, offers 'night and day improvements'. The PS5 Pro was clearly able to deliver far superior performance, enabling a rock-solid 60 fps in performance mode with remarkable improvements to fidelity.

Adding fuel to the hype, industry insider Moore's Law is Dead has claimed that according to gameplay footage shared by a developer who refused to be named, the PS5 Pro was able to run their title with dynamic resolution ranging from 1600p to 1300p at around 50 fps. Upon unlocking the framerate, it handily exceeded 100 fps, while requiring 'zero optimizations'. The developer further added 'they have no doubt', that with further PS5 Pro-specific optimizations and PSSR, the PS5 Pro could comfortably lock in at 1440p to 1600p at 120 fps, or even hit a glorious 4K 60 fps at ultra settings.

While undoubtedly impressive, there's no ignoring the elephant in the room: the PS5 Pro's prohibitively high price tag. Moreover, substantial improvements are only to be expected, considering the base PS5 (currently $449 on Amazon) was launched almost 4 years ago. With that being said, for those who do crave the absolute best performance that a console can offer, the PS5 Pro is indeed tempting - if their wallets can withstand the blow, that is.
