Details regarding PS5 Pro release date, price, and new DualSense controller surface
The existence of an enhanced PlayStation 5 Pro has been an open secret for months now. Even though Sony will reveal the PS5 Pro today, we already have a pretty good idea of what the console looks like, how it performs, and the possible enhancements it packs over the vanilla PS5.
Now, hours before the official PS5 Pro announcement, we have even more details about the new console courtesy of a number of posts on X shared by Brian Potter. Since the leaker correctly revealed the PS5 Pro announcement date on September 1, any other PS5 Pro information from Brian needs to be taken seriously.
First up, Brian claimed earlier this month that Sony will bundle the PS5 Pro with improved DualSense controllers. These controllers reportedly boast better battery life than the OG DualSense launched with the non-Pro PS5. Additionally, the new controllers are also expected to have “enhanced” triggers.
Secondly, the PS5 Pro will also reportedly ship with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support for physical disks and “select streaming services”. This is an advantage that the Xbox Series X and S have enjoyed over the OG PS5 Pro which lacks support for these HDR formats.
PS5 Pro price and release date
The PS5 Pro price seems to be £499.99 for the Digital model and £589.99 for the SKU with a disk drive. At the current exchange rate, these prices translate to $654 for the PS5 Pro Digital and a whopping $772 for the one with a disk drive. These are substantial increases over the non-Pro PS5 which can currently be found for $499.99 on Amazon.
For the release date, Sony is planning to take full advantage of the holiday season. The leaker suggested a PS5 Pro Digital release date of November 14 while the version with a Blu-ray drive is rumored to land on December 5.
Finally, Brian Potter also claimed that Sony is going to hold a new State of Play on September 19. The event will reportedly focus on third-party and indie titles "making the most of PS5 Pro". The post makes it seem that Sony won't be revealing any details regarding first-party games.
All in all, the PS5 Pro is gearing up to be a nice but not revolutionary upgrade over the standard console. However, we are not sure if consumers will respond well to the purported PS5 Pro price increase if the console retails at the reported MSRP.
