Polish gaming site PPE has received word about a new PS5 Pro model and controller that may arrive as early as November. While details are scarce, the revised PlayStation console would feature improved power efficiency. Meanwhile, like rival Xbox controllers, the DualSense V3 will allow gamers to easily replace its battery.
Graczdari, who uncovered the physical version of Oblivion Remastered and the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PS5 port, is the source of the leak. Still, Sony has yet to confirm whether any new PS5 controllers or consoles are on the way. It also didn’t provide much warning before a PS5 Slim Digital with reduced storage debuted in Europe.
More recently, an updated PS5 Pro with model number CFI-7121 also surfaced. It’s unclear what, if any, connection this system has to the console discussed by PPE. Gamers had speculated that Sony found cheaper components to avoid another PS5 price increase.
Graczdari expects the leaked console to consume 3% less power than the currently available PS5 Pro. Sony has increasingly sought to improve the efficiency of its gaming systems. In a September 17th system update, existing PS5 consoles received a new power-saving mode. Performance in games will suffer, but the mode may benefit a rumored PS6 handheld in development.
What the new PS5 controller may offer
Fans may find the prospect of a new PS5 controller more exciting. PPE expects that the DualSense V3 will be bundled with the more power-efficient PS5 Pro. It may also replace older controller versions and be available separately. A removable battery would give gamers more options when power levels run low during intense gameplay.
Gamers have requested that Sony embrace Hall effect technology to combat stick drift. Even the pricey DualSense Edge pro controller lacks these more durable analog sticks. Unfortunately, Graczdari can’t verify whether the joysticks on the DualSense V3 will prove any more durable. There have been several hardware revisions to the DualSense, but none offer significantly different performance or features.
