Limited information exists about what Microsoft's next console might look like, if one arrives at all. However, there are more indications that a new Xbox controller may materialize sooner. The rumored Sebile turned up again in some XCloud files, as reported by prominent leaker eXtas1s. The data mining revealed several codenames believed to refer to controller specs.
The Sebile controller first surfaced during legal hearings over Microsoft's Activision acquisition in 2023. The same court documents also mentioned new Xbox consoles, including the Brooklin. It's unlikely that gamers will ever see the cylindrical Brooklin, but the Sebile keeps popping up in patent filings and leaks. A December 2024 patent focused on advanced haptic motors that could make using the controller as immersive as the PS5 DualSense.
In a YouTube video, eXtas1s also discussed several other expected changes in the new Xbox controller. The Sebile would ditch batteries and ship as a rechargeable device, like its DualSense rival. Some Redditors have reacted negatively, claiming the supremacy of long-lasting rechargeable AA batteries. That said, a proposed shake-to-wake-up feature could preserve power levels.
The new Sebile leak originated from Better XCloud files, an alternate Xbox cloud gaming solution. To combat latency, eXtas1s thinks the new controller will communicate with cloud servers or remote games over WiFi. Google's Stadia controller took a similar approach as an alternative to Bluetooth.
Not all Xbox fans are pleased with the proposed Sebile controller. Leaks have yet to confirm drift-resistant Hall effect analog sticks, even though they are now included on some budget controllers.
If Microsoft intends to release the Sebile in this console generation, additional details should keep emerging.
