In recent months, teardowns of a revised PS5 Pro model revealed a modified DualSense controller. Modyfikator89 reports that the accessory labeled as CFI-ZCT2W is shipping with various consoles in Europe. According to the modder, the new PS5 controller may offer the better battery life fans have been craving.
Modyfikator89 explains that buyers can find the revamped DualSense V2 bundled with PS5 Pro model CFI-7121. The system began shipping in European countries in September 2025. The controller has also been spotted with the PS5 Slim CFI-2116 revision.
Other limited DualSense releases like the gold Ghost of Yōtei edition are also using the new hardware configuration. If intent on trying out the peripheral, the CFI-ZCT2W stamp should appear on the packaging.
When disassembling the PS5 controller, Modyfikator89 discovered that it uses the BDM-060 board. While he believes that the device operates more efficiently, not all the changes are beneficial. To achieve the boosted battery life, Sony removed the secondary mic. That may affect the controller’s ability to filter out background noise, but gamers have yet to see it tested.
How poor is the DualSense battery life?
Lackluster battery life has been a common complaint among PlayStation fans since the PS5's debut. In some cases, players may need to recharge the accessory after only six hours. Unlike many Xbox controllers, owners can’t easily swap out batteries when necessary. However, that option may still arrive in the future with the rumored DualSense V3.
Unfortunately, there is no evidence that Hall effect or TMR analog sticks will debut with the new PS5 controller. Stick drift, which can surface as components wear down, has been another sticking point for dedicated gamers.
Sony has quietly been making other changes to its consoles. Modyfikator89 recognized a different cooling system in the PS5 Slim CFI-2116 that borrows a design from the PS5 Pro. The hope is that the modifications will prevent the infamous liquid-metal leak that caused higher temperatures in older consoles.
