It has been a long wait for the arrival of Hyperkin's The Competitor wired controller for Xbox. When it was first announced at CES 2025, Hyperkin didn't provide details about its price and availability. However, last month, it released a new product video including details of the controller's price tag and its release month. Now, it has opened up pre-orders, but buyers will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on it.
The Competitor is now available to pre-order from Hyperkin's store and from Amazon for $49.99 in Black and White color options; and according to both Hyperkin and the Amazon listings, the controller will be released on October 29. The controller also comes in Blue, Red, and Gold, but these colors are not available now. Although an earlier report did say that certain colors won't be available in some regions.
Hyperkin's The Competitor is a wired controller that is compatible with the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC. What makes it interesting is its design which is inspired by the PS5's DualSense controller. Unlike other Xbox controllers, The Competitor has a segmented D-pad and symmetrical thumbsticks.
The controller features Hall Effect thumbsticks with anti-friction gates, metal glide rings, and removable stick caps. It also has Hall Effect impulse triggers and two programmable back buttons that can be locked with the flick of a switch. On the face of the controller is a mic mute button, a share button, a menu button, and a view button.
Like many wired controllers such as the GameSir G7 Pro (read our review), Hyperkin's The Competitor connects via USB-C to a compatible device. Hyperkin ships the controller with a 6-ft long USB-C cable along with domed and concave thumbsticks.
