The Switch 2 Pro Controller is the obvious solution when Joy-Cons aren't sufficient. However, the Nintendo accessory costs a hefty $84.99, which might have gamers looking for alternatives. The PowerA Advantage has returned with a $39.99 Switch 2 version, now available for pre-order at Best Buy.
The main benefit of the officially licensed Switch 2 controller is its use of Hall effect technology. The PowerA Advantage has analog sticks that measure inputs using magnetic sensors. Without as many physical parts grinding together, the components are more durable and resist stick drift. After some confusion, Nintendo clarified that its new Joy-Cons would not offer Hall effect benefits. The Switch 2 Pro likely has the same limitation. While the company claims the sticks will be more reliable, how they are designed is unclear.
The Advantage mimics many of the core features of the Switch 2 Pro. Its two backside Advantage Gaming Buttons are remappable without software. The third-party Switch 2 controller also has a C-Button to initiate GameChat during multiplayer action. Gaming headset users will find a 3.5mm audio jack and the ability to adjust EQ settings.
Gamers will make some compromises with PowerA's new Hall effect controller. The device connects to the console only through a 10-foot wired USB-C cable. Also, even though Nintendo licenses it, the controller doesn't feature HD Rumble, motion controls, or amiibo support. The Advantage caters to competitive gamers who prefer a lightweight, no-frills option.
The PowerA Advantage is available in basic Black and Mario-inspired colorways: Mario Time and Mushroom Kingdom. Wario75 on X also noticed a $49.99 white Lumectra version with RGB lighting. Sadly, it's no longer up for pre-order on Best Buy's website.
