The GameSir Super Nova is a way to save money when upgrading to the Switch 2. The wireless Switch controller works with both the newer and older Nintendo consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. Unlike many affordable controllers, the Super Nova boasts Hall effect sticks to combat stick drift.

With costly Switch 2 accessories, buyers may seek alternatives to Nintendo's latest Pro Controller. The GameSir Super Nova connects wirelessly to both generations of the console, PCs, and mobile devices. Also, the Switch controller offers drift-resistant Hall effect sticks and generous customization. The $29.99 Best Buy sale price is well below any Amazon discount for the normally $49.99 Super Nova.

The Super Nova is surprisingly versatile and well-built

Reviews of the GameSir controller describe exceptional build quality for an affordable device. The Hall effect analog sticks and triggers add to its durability. Since the sticks measure inputs using magnetic sensors, there are fewer physical components prone to wear and tear.

The Super Nova showcases a standard Xbox layout, but Switch gamers can swap the orientation of the membrane face buttons. Its two back paddles are remappable with or without software to provide quicker access to common inputs.

The backward compatibility of the Switch 2 benefits the Super Nova. Gamers can connect the Switch and Switch 2 controller to either handheld using the included USB-C wireless receiver. The dongle unlocks a 1000Hz polling rate to minimize wireless latency. For more casual gaming, Bluetooth pairing is also an option. The same wireless and wired connectivity applies to PCs, as well as Android and iOS devices. Testers have reported lower battery life compared to the Switch Pro 2. Even so, the charging stand that replenishes the controller is an unexpected bonus.

With modular faceplates and RGB lighting, the Super Nova has more perks than any similarly priced competitor. Still, one common complaint is with the D-pad on the GameSir controller. The cross-shaped pad can take force to register inputs, which is frustrating during intense gameplay. Switch gamers have also noted occasional connectivity issues, forcing repairing.

At its $29.99 Best Buy price, it's easy to overlook any minor quibbles with the GameSir Super Nova. Switch gamers, in particular, will struggle to find a wireless controller with identical capabilities.
