A Nintendo patent for the Switch 2's Joy-Con suggests the controllers can be rotated 180 degrees and attached to either side of the console, offering clear benefits for users.

On February 6, Nintendo published a patent that hints at exciting innovations for the Switch 2’s Joy-Con. It’s already confirmed that the new controllers will use magnets for better handling and stability. Rumors also suggest they might feature a mouse-like function, similar to the right controller of the Lenovo Legion Go, and could even support a 180-degree flip mechanism.

Patent WO/2025/027801 includes an image showing the Switch 2’s Joy-Con seemingly mounted upside down. This suggests the left controller could attach to the right side and vice versa. However, this feature would only be useful if the console automatically detects the change and adjusts the display accordingly, offering users greater flexibility when using the ports.

A 180-degree flip function for the Joy-Con could let users decide whether the headphone jack sits at the top or bottom of the console. Since the Switch 2 is confirmed to have two USB ports, the ability to switch sides could be especially useful, depending on how the second port is intended to be used.
