Steam deal: Iconic zombie shooter with over 700,000 positive reviews for under $1

Released in November 2009 for PC and Xbox 360, Left 4 Dead 2 is now over 15 years old but remains a fan favorite. It recently hit a peak of over 40,000 simultaneous players on SteamDB and its reviews speak for themselves – over 710,000, with 97% positive.

Left 4 Dead 2 throws players into a world overrun by a deadly virus that has turned most of the population into the undead. While the first game was set in the Pacific Northwest, the sequel takes players through the southern United States, from Georgia to Louisiana. Set a few weeks after the outbreak, the story follows four survivors as they battle through dangerous environments, desperately seeking safe evacuation points.

Focus on team play

The game is built around cooperative gameplay, requiring players to work together as one of four survivors. The campaign can be played solo with AI teammates or in co-op mode with up to three others, either online or locally. Beyond the classic co-op experience, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a competitive Versus mode, where one team plays as survivors and the other as the infected. For those seeking an extra challenge, Survival mode pits players against endless waves of zombies.

Shoot or beat up zombies

Left 4 Dead 2 delivers fast-paced, intense gunplay with a mix of classic and special weapons. Players can arm themselves with pistols, shotguns, assault rifles and submachine guns, along with powerful options like machine guns and grenade launchers. However, ammo is scarce, so conserving it is key. When bullets run out, melee combat becomes essential. Unlike the first game, where players could only use firearm butts or fists, Left 4 Dead 2 introduces a variety of melee weapons – including axes, machetes, baseball bats and even chainsaws, perfect for tearing through zombie hordes.
