Anyone hoping for the second GTA 6 trailer at Sony's State of Play was disappointed. However, fans familiar with a particular interview with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick may find clues in the event that help narrow down the game's release window.

Although many had low expectations, some fans still hoped for the second GTA 6 trailer at Sony’s State of Play on February 12, which featured several new game reveals. That didn’t happen. However, GTA fans didn’t walk away empty-handed – Sony revealed the release date for Borderlands 4, which may offer clues about when GTA 6 will launch.

At Sony’s State of Play, it was announced that Borderlands 4 will launch on September 23, 2025. Fans who recall Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s interview with Variety in November 2024 might take notice – Zelnick confirmed that GTA 6 and Borderlands 4 will not have overlapping release windows. He stated:

"I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily."

This suggests that GTA 6 will launch either a few weeks before or after Borderlands 4. Strictly speaking, late August or early September is still summer. Nevertheless, a release during this peroid would be conceivable. However, Take-Two's official Fall 2025 release window suggests a later launch is more likely. Past entries like GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas also launched in October, supporting this theory. Still, many fans doubt whether Rockstar and Take-Two can stick to the planned schedule. A former Rockstar developer, though, claims GTA 6 is already fully playable, offering hope for an on-time release.
