To no one's surprise, Sony's latest State of Play confirmed the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date as August 28th. The game is a remaster of the popular 2004 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which was released on the PS2 and Nintendo 3DS. Since the same trailer for the action-packed stealth title was already leaked, fans might feel a bit underwhelmed. The Ape Escape reference also made it into the presentation, sparking curiosity among first-time viewers.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was a prequel; the game featured pivotal characters in the franchise, including Snake. Konami found it a practical choice to reintroduce PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players to a series of 11 games following the same storyline. Beyond improved HD textures, gamers can expect Snake's injuries to persist throughout a campaign. As players have seen with Tomb Raider remakes, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will offer an optional modern control scheme.
After most of the already leaked video concluded, a mischievous monkey appeared on the screen. Fans of the series will recall that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater included a bonus Snake vs. Monkey mode on the PS2. The goal for Snake was to locate as many Pipo Monkeys as possible. If successful, he was rewarded with a Monkey Mask and Banana Camouflage cosmetic item. The footage ended with an "and more" statement, preluding more surprising content.
Players were undoubtedly hoping to see new Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater footage in the State of Play or another announcement. However, Sony only has themselves to blame for killing some of the hype, even briefly posting the game's release date on the PlayStation Store.
