Motorola has been rolling out the Android 15 update to its eligible phones for a while now, and while that is commendable considering the brand used to be infamous for its poor software update policy, the new OS upgrade hasn't been a pleasant experience for all.
There have been reports from multiple users who have upgraded to Android 15 that the update causes the launcher to crash repeatedly. This practically renders the phone unusable since the launcher controls the home screen and app drawer.
A user who posted on Reddit said the Moto launcher keeps crashing every few seconds on their Motorola Edge 50 Fusion; and even after clearing the launcher's cache and rebooting into safe mode, the issue still persists. However, there are no issues when inside an app or while using a custom launcher.
According to a report by Android Authority, there are some users who have reported issues even with a custom launcher. One user who posted on the Lenovo forum said the stock launcher on his Motorola Edge 50 Neo kept overriding his custom launcher.
The report also said although Motorola has begun rolling out new updates to fix the issue, the fix brings another issue for select devices. For instance, the writer stated that the fix solves the launcher-crashing issue on his Motorola ThinkPhone 25, however on his Razr+ 2023 (curr. available on Amazon for $400), while the main screen no longer crashes, the one on the cover screen now crashes.
Motorola hasn't released a statement regarding the issues with the Android 15 update, but it is advised that users hold off on updating their phones until the issues have been solved.
