Dark Souls 3 remaster reportedly in the works
Remasters have been all the rage of late, with even some games that aged well (read: Horizon Zero Dawn) getting one. This time, however, it involves a revered game that could really do with a fresh coat of paint: Dark Souls 3. Industry insider Shpeshal Nick has heard from sources that the critically acclaimed title is in the process of getting a makeover.
While Nick refuses to divulge any more details, the Dark Souls 3 remaster will run at "a little bit more" than 60 FPS; the first for any Souls game. That, combined with visual improvements, bugfixes and an updated engine, should make it an instant hit among fans. Even the original Dark Souls got a remaster in 2018, so a Dark Souls 3 remaster isn't particularly surprising.
Plus, the genre was relatively obscure when the game launched in 2016. People who played Elden Ring as their first FromSoftware game will have no qualms giving the Dark Souls 3 remaster a try. For now, there's no word about who'll actually develop the port, but if the Demon's Souls remake is anything to go by, FromSoftware will likely stick with Bluepoint Games.
One can't help but wonder why Bloodborne (released a year before Dark Souls 3) isn't getting the same treatment. Sony (who owns the IP) probably has that saved up for a terrible quarter or as a PlayStation 6 launch title. Either way, we have no choice but to wait.
