NVIDIA has announced Half-Life 2 RTX, an RTX Remix Project that appears distinct from HL2RTX that Igor Zdrowowicz debuted earlier this year. In a press release, NVIDIA confirmed the following:
Four of the top Half-Life 2 Mod teams have banded together, and are looking to invite the entire mod community to join the effort to build Half-Life 2 RTX. We encourage mod artists to join Orbifold Studios and help create this incredible remaster.
In the same press release, NVIDIA clarifies that Half-Life 2 RTX is being worked on using an early access version of RTX Remix's creator toolkit. The company adds that the remaster relies on rebuilt materials with Physically Based Rendering (PBR) properties, possibly like Minecraft with RTX. However, Half-Life 2 RTX will gain additional geometric detail through the Valve Hammer Editor.
Additionally, Half-Life 2 RTX will support DLSS 3, full ray tracing, NVIDIA Reflex, and NVIDIA RTX IO, all with the aim of providing a 'fantastic experience for GeForce RTX gamers'. Unfortunately, a launch date has not been announced yet. NVIDIA mentions that community developers have 'just begun development', implying that it could be a while before Half-Life 2 RTX is playable.
