Although never made official by its creators, Half-Life 3 is still the talk of the town. Indeed, new information has recently been leaked, which could augur a bright future for this as yet unofficial game.
For months, rumors have been circulating about the game, leaving many fans divided between hope and disappointment. Now, however, everything looks different, as publisher Valve is said to be on the verge of making the new title official.
And for that, we have to turn to GabeFollower and Tyler McVicker, two dataminers who conducted a little investigation following the latest updates on Counter-Strike 2 and Deadlock. To do so, they took a close look at the codes of Valve's in-house engine.
They state that Half-Life 3 will feature realistic physics, meaning that it will be “heavy”. In addition, they mention the presence of thermodynamic mechanics, simulation-like vehicle handling and a dynamic wind system, all of which are likely to have a significant impact on gameplay and story development.
What's more, according to the information found in this engine, some weapons may lack hitscans. In other words, they may be affected by gravity in certain areas of the game. AI will also be improved to meet today's gaming requirements. Finally, Thumpers and Antlions could make a comeback, as could mod support, which should be available as soon as Half-Life 3 is released.
Another piece of information may well delight fans of the license. According to these two dataminers, the game could be released soon. According to GabeFollower, some parts of the game are already finished and playable. And that's despite the fact that they need to be improved from an aesthetic point of view. For his part, Tyler McVicker thinks it's best to be wary of such information. He points out that Valve has a different way of working compared with other studios, and as long as nothing is official, this information should be taken with a certain amount of caution.
