AYANEO Pocket S rumoured to launch as new Android gaming handheld with next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset
AYANEO has started teasing Project S, hot on the heels of the alleged Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 version of the Pocket Air. Reputedly, AYANEO will eventually release Project S as the 'Pocket S', although the company has not confirmed this on its social media channels yet. However, it has revealed that Project S concerns a new Android gaming handheld, so it should follow that will also sit under its Pocket brand.
At any rate, the Pocket S is said to rely upon a Qualcomm chipset, mirroring the Snapdragon version of the Pocket Air. Allegedly, the Pocket S could utilise a more powerful alternative to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, although this remains unconfirmed at this stage too. Currently, only the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy sit above the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in Qualcomm's mobile portfolio.
The difference between these three SKUs is minor though, with a 160 MHz overclock applied to the Cortex-X3 prime cores in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. Thus, we would not rule AYANEO turning to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will arrive later this year. Separately, apparent AYANEO Pocket S or Project S teaser images have turned up online, revealing a compact shell with what appears to be a glass front and metal sides. Presumably, AYANEO will showcase more details about its next Android gaming handheld soon, possibly after it launches the Pocket Air on Indiegogo.
