The RTX 4060 Ti might be getting a price drop according to a new leak from Moore's Law Is Dead. Per one of the leaker's "best NVIDIA sources", the company will drop prices of the RTX 4060 Ti in the coming weeks to compete with the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT GPUs that AMD is expectedly revealing at Gamescom.

When NVIDIA released the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB for US$399, the consensus was that the GPU is abysmally priced for the performance and VRAM it offers. Team Green made matters even worse by following up with the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB for US$499, charging an extra US$100 for just 8 GB more video memory. Understandably, many reviews lambasted the board. For instance, Hardware Unboxed termed the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB “NVIDIA’s US$500 joke”.

As it now turns out, NVIDIA may finally be reducing the price of the RTX 4060 Ti per a new leak by Moore’s Law Is Dead. If true, the price cut would make the RTX 4060 Ti much easier to recommend.

MLID's report, which comes courtesy of one of his NVIDIA sources, states that the RTX 4060 Ti is receiving “a de facto price cut” in a couple of weeks. The leaker alleges that the price cut may come “right before Starfield”. Starfield, Bethesda Game Studio’s hotly anticipated RPG, releases on September 6 and is now up for pre-load. The title is currently under embargo and reviews of the game are slated to go live on August 31.

The RTX 4060 Ti getting a purported price reduction before Starfield seems plausible since the game is bound to push a lot of people to upgrade/build new PCs.

Furthermore, the RTX 4060 Ti MSRP is reportedly not getting official cuts but rather the “channel pricing will be adjusted down” to allow the AIBs/retailers to sell at more favorable prices compared to the imminent Navi 32 GPUs

AMD is expected to announce the Navi 32-based RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT cards on August 25 at Gamescom 2023. Per previous leaks, the RX 7800 XT and the RX 7700 XT allegedly cost US$499-US$549 and US$399-US$499 respectively. At these prices, the AMD Radeon GPUs could give a tough time to NVIDIA RTX 40 competitors since reports have the RX 7800 (XT) and RX 7700 beating the RTX 4070 and the RTX 4060 TI respectively.

Finally, MLID’s source also claims that the exact amount of price cut will only be finalized after NVIDIA sees the official RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 MSRPs.

Put simply, we might get to see some much-needed discounts on the RTX 4060 Ti pretty soon. Combined with the imminent launch of the Navi 32 boards, the discounted RTX 4060 Ti GPUs could breathe new life into the mid-range GPU segment that has been particularly bad this generation.
