As an earlier report indicated, NVIDIA quietly released the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB without any review coverage on July 18. The GPU is just the regular RTX 4060 Ti but with 8 GB more VRAM for US$100 more. Although the board has an MSRP of US$499, there is no Founders Edition model and it was expected that certain AIB models would cost considerably more than the base price. However, it appears that the situation could be even worse as an ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB has been listed on the German retailer Notebooksbilliger for €659. This price is €60 more than the lowest-priced RTX 4070 models available to buy from the retailer.
While the ASUS ROG Strix GPUs are high-end cards that are bound to command a hefty premium over the MSRPs, seeing an RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB cost more than an RTX 4070 illustrates how bad of a value NVIDIA’s newest board really is. The RTX 4070 is, on average, 28.6% faster at FHD, 33.3% ahead at QHD, and 39% ahead at 4K vs the RTX 4060 Ti. So, the ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB costing more than the RTX 4070 doesn’t make sense from any angle.
The base RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB caught a lot of flak from many reviewers due to the price, performance, memory configuration, and the resulting poor value vs the RTX 3060 Ti. Had NVIDIA provided review samples for the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, the card would most likely have gotten even worse reviews due to the US$100 price increase. Suffice to say, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB seems like a pretty poor release.
