Gamers who plan to use their gaming laptop as a mostly stationary replacement for a full-fledged desktop PC might be in the market for a powerful 17-inch QHD machine, which often has more internal space and therefore a less noisy cooling system than many smaller notebooks. The 2023 Asus ROG Strix G17 arguably falls into this category.

Furthermore, an attractive mid-range configuration of the latest Asus ROG Strix G17 has now been put on sale at Walmart. Specifically, the world's largest retailer is currently selling the gaming laptop's model variant with the brand-new AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a TGP of 140 watts for US$1,399 including free shipping, which amounts to a US$300 or roughly 18 percent discount relative to the MSRP. The Asus ROG Strix G17 also sports a 300-nit QHD display with a high refresh rate of 240Hz and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

We've tested a higher-end version of the 2023 Asus ROG Strix G17 earlier this year, but many of our findings also apply to the RTX 4060-powered machine that is on sale here. For instance, we were impressed by the neck-breaking performance of the aforementioned AMD Ryzen 9 CPU, but we also praised the fast QHD panel, good speakers and decent temperatures while gaming. On the negative side, this gaming laptop has a short battery life of around four hours and a pretty disappointing webcam. All in all, gamers who are looking for a 17-inch notebook and don't care too much about these minor weaknesses might want to take a closer look at this offer.
