Acer updated the Predator Triton series of gaming laptops with the latest 13th gen Intel Raptor Lake mobile chips and RTX 40 GPUs in April of this year. The small Triton 14 also saw an update to the specs with a Core i7-13700H processor, up to an RTX 4070, and a mini-LED display.
The high-end configuration of the Acer Predator Triton 14 with a Core i7-13700H CPU, an RTX 4070 GPU, 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory, 512 GB of PCIe 4 storage, and a mini-LED display is now on sale at Best Buy for US$1,699.99, representing US$300 savings (via slickdeals). Honey’s price history tool shows that the Predator Triton 14’s discounted price is the cheapest rate the laptop has ever gone for.
As evident by the specifications listed above, the Triton 14’s key selling points are the powerful Core i7-13700H/RTX 4070 combo and the 14-inch mini-LED display.
Starting with the screen, Acer claims that the 2560x1600 resolution mini-LED panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut and boasts up to 600 nits of brightness. Additionally, the display also rocks a 250 Hz refresh rate, support for NVIDIA G-SYNC, and a 3 ms response time.
When it comes to performance, users can expect the Predator Triton 14 to play all modern games at elevated settings at FHD/QHD thanks to the RTX 4070 on offer. In our testing, the GPU performs practically the same as the outgoing RTX 3080 Ti mobile, as the latter only appears 3% ahead in our 3DMark Time Spy Graphics benchmark. In video games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, The Last of Us, and Star Wars Jedi Survivor, to name a few, the RTX 4070 had enough horsepower to comfortably push the titles to 60+ FPS at 1080p/Ultra.
The same can be expected from the 14-core Core i7-13700H. With the average Cinebench R23 Multi-Core and Single-Core scores of 15,568 and 1,766 respectively, our tests show the CPU to be a snappy performer that will be able to handle almost anything you can throw at it.
Put simply, the Acer Predator Triton 14 is a compact gaming notebook that doesn’t skimp out on power. For only US$1,699.99, it deserves to be on your watchlist.
