With its 4608 CUDA cores and 8 GB RAM, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 (Laptop) sits right between the underpowered RTX 4050 (Laptop) and the nearly almighty RTX 4090 (Laptop) GPUs. As long as the TGP limit is higher than 100 W and the cooling solution is capable enough, such a graphics card will run all AAA games at 1080p in Ultra quality, delivering the magical 100+ fps in many titles.
Of the 19 RTX 4070-equipped laptops tested by us, a few stand out for being particularly fast while some are embarassingly slow. Dell's XPS 15 9530 is the slowest RTX 4070 laptop we have tested, in no small part because of the low 50 W TGP target.
The fastest RTX 4070 laptop: Medion Erazer Major X20 / Uniwill GM6PX7X IDX
Companies like Schenker, Medion, Uniwill or Eluctroniks do not design their laptops on their own. Instead, they buy nearly complete systems from Asian suppliers such as Tongfang to sell them to local consumers with a bit of customization applied as needed.
This does not mean these laptops are somehow inferior to their counterparts from the likes of Dell and HP. In fact, the 16-inch Medion Erazer Major X20 (Uniwill GM6PX7X IDX) is the fastest RTX 4070 laptop in our database. While it's certainly not the lightest option at 2.37 kg, it has a powerful Raptor Lake CPU, 2 RAM slots, 2 NVMe SSD slots and plenty of other advantages up its sleeve.

This 2.47 kg, easy-to-service Lenovo laptop makes good use of its Zen 4-based AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. It never gets hot and neither does it get too loud under prolonged load.

This 2.13 kg Lenovo Legion is both fast and slim. That's not to say it does not have a set of drawbacks. For starters, there is just one SO-DIMM slot on its motherboard, meaning several gigabytes of RAM are permanently soldered and there is nothing the user can do about it.
