The ROG Strix G17 with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX and RTX 4070 is well equipped for current and future games with similarly current and powerful hardware. Together with RGB illumination all around and a 240-Hertz IPS display, it leaves hardly any gaming desires unfulfilled. On the other hand, our test reveals not only some expected weaknesses.
AMD's new Zen4 CPUs have finally arrived and the new flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX competes with Intel's Raptor Lake HX models. The performance of the new Zen4 cores (Dragon Range) is very good and the Ryzen 9 is also more efficient than Intel's HX CPUs.

This Strix G17 is a compelling mid-tier laptop, in either this RTX 4070 variant or the more affordable RTX 4060 configuration. I still have my nits with some of the ergonomics of this series and find the offered configurations somewhat unbalanced, with the beastly AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor and only mid-tier GPU options. But my main gripe with this series is the poor efficiency on battery power, which might be enough to steer some of you toward the Strix G16/G18 models, despite their higher price.
