Now that the RTX 5070 Laptop and Nvidia's other mobile Blackwell GPUs has been officially unveiled, prices of gaming laptops with previous-gen graphics cards have taken another small but notable dip. Gamers who are in the hunt for a pretty large 17-inch notebook might also want to advantage of this development and can now snag the Asus ROG Strix G17 at its lowest price ever.
More specifically, the RTX 4070-equipped variant of the ROG Strix G17 has been discounted to $1,249 including free shipping at B&H Photo Video. This undercuts a previous offer by another $50 and results in a new all-time low price, which provides savings of 34% in relation to Asus' official MSRP of this particular configuration.
Strix G17 stays cool, but doesn't last long on battery
In addition to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 with 8GB VRAM, the ROG Strix G17 is powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HX. Furthermore, the 17-inch Asus gaming laptop has 16GB DDR5 memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. New owners will also enjoy the 240Hz WQHD IPS display of the Strix G17, which covers the entire DCI-P3 color space and is advertised with G-Sync support and a quick 3ms response time.
For an objective analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the Asus ROG Strix G17, please refer to our in-depth review of an almost identical AMD configuration of the 17-inch behemoth. Aside from the poor battery runtimes, blurry webcam and unimpressive peak brightness, we didn't have any major gripes with the Strix G17.
We found that the RTX 4070 laptop has a very powerful AMD processor, very decent speakers and good temperatures even while gaming. That being said, even better gaming notebook deals will probably become available once RTX 5070 machines have hit the market. Until then, the discounted Asus ROG Strix G17 is a noteworthy option for gamers in this price segment.
