Much-needed RTX 4060 Ti price cut arrives as MSI drops rate of factory-overclocked Ventus 2X Black card within a month of release
From unflattering reviews to bad launch day sales to underwhelming post-launch reception, it is safe to say that the RTX 4060 Ti is apparently a pretty poor release from NVIDIA. One of the key factors in the RTX 4060 Ti’s cold reception is the poor price/performance proposition that the GPU offers. For instance, the cheapest RX 6700 XT on Newegg costs US$330 at the time of writing. Comparatively, the US$400 RTX 4060 Ti is 21% more expensive for only 7% and 9% more rasterization performance vs the RX 6700 XT at 1440p and 1080p, respectively per 3DCenter’s launch review roundup of the GeForce card. This comparison becomes even worse for the RTX 4060 Ti when we factor in the paltry 8 GB of VRAM vs 12 GB of the RX 6700 XT.
With this in mind, it was probable that the RTX 4060 Ti would experience a price drop. As it turns out, the RTX 4060 Ti price has already started slipping, as MSI has cut the price of the MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB by 5% or about US$20 on various retailers (via VideoCardz). You can find the card listed for US$379.99 on Newegg, Amazon, and B&H Photo.
Interestingly, the RTX 4060 which is now confirmed to launch on June 29 is priced at US$299.99, so US$100 below the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. The current deal reduces the price difference between the RTX 4060 and the RTX 4060 Ti to just US$80 which could eat into sales of the former provided NVIDIA doesn’t change the MSRP to better tackle the US$270 RX 7600.
Whatever the case ends up being, it is encouraging to see the RTX 4060 Ti getting discounted within a month of launch. Let’s hope the price correction continues and the GPU offers the value proposition it should’ve from the start.
