The AW2724DM is one of two new Alienware gaming monitor that Dell has recently introduced, the other being the Alienware AW2724HF. While the former is cheaper than the latter, the Alienware AW2724DM has a few advantages over the Alienware AW2724HF. On the one hand, the Alienware AW2724DM runs natively at 1440p (2,560 x 1,440), compared to 1080p for the Alienware AW2724HF. On the other hand, the Alienware AW2724DM offers 600 nits peak brightness, or 400 nits when viewing SDR content.
Additionally, the Alienware AW2724DM has a Fast IPS panel with a 165 Hz native refresh rate that is overclockable to 180 Hz. However, it is worth noting that the monitor's HDMI 1.4 (HDCP 1.4) limits the monitor to outputting at 144 Hz. Also, the Alienware AW2724DM delivers 95% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 1 ms response times and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to prevent image tearing. Moreover, Dell lists the gaming monitor as being NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible.
The Alienware AW2724DM features a USB hub like the Alienware AW2724HF too. The former makes do with just two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A downstream ports and a USB Type-B downstream port though, compared to the four Type-A ports in the Alienware AW2724HF. Conversely, the Alienware AW2724DM also has an adjustable stand and 100 x 100 mm VESA mounts. The Alienware AW2724DM is available for €458.99 in the Eurozone and US$399.99 in the US.
