Previewed in prototype form earlier this October, the Asus RTX 4060 Ti Dual GPUs that integrate an M.2 slot for NVMe SSDs are now available at least in Finland. This solution is limited to RTX 4060 / Ti cards with AD106 or AD107 chips, as these models can only utilize half of the 16 lanes on a PCIe slot.
The storage addition is meant to offer an additional M.2 slot, since many motherboards only feature a single M.2 connector that is buried under a special heatsink and, in order to replace it, users need to take out the GPU or CPU cooler. Furthermore, 4 of the 8 unutilized PCIe lanes on the GPU slot can now be accessed. We could potentially see cards with two M.2 slots, if this design becomes popular in the future and Nvidia continues to gimp the PCIe bandwidth on the lower-end desktop GPUs.
Asus is providing its Q-Latch system that makes it easy to attach the SSD on the back of the video card without screws. The SSD side featuring the PCIe controller makes contact with the back heatsink plate of the GPU, thus keeping the SSD thermals in check. Apparently, the M.2 slot can support PCIe 5.0 SSDs, as well.
Select Finnish stores are selling the Asus RTX 4060 Ti DUAL OC with 8 GB VRAM for €559. US prices should be under US$500, however. Non-OC variants are also expected to launch later on with lower prices.
