AMD announced two new Navi 32-based mid-range cards on August 25. Starting at US$449 and US$499 for the 54 CU RX 7700 XT and the 60 CU RX 7800 XT respectively, both GPUs are set to arrive on September 6. AMD claims that the RX 7700 XT with 12 GB of VRAM is anywhere from -9% to 31% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB in different games despite costing US$50 less and constituting 4 GB less memory. Thanks to a new leak from HXL on Twitter, AMD’s performance claims about the RX 7700 XT appear to hold.
Before we discuss the performance, it is important to mention that while HXL doesn’t mention the leaked score refers to the RX 7700 XT, the attached CPU-Z screenshot confirms that the Navi 32 board is the RX 7700 XT since it matches the official specifications revealed by AMD.
According to HXL, the RX 7700 XT nets a 3DMark Time Spy Graphics score of “~17K”. Assuming that it is a round 17,000, the RX 7700 XT should be 5% better than the RX 6800, 3% behind the RX 6800 XT, and an impressive 48% better than the RX 6700 XT per our testing.
The leaked RX 7700 XT performance also looks good vs the competing NVIDIA GPUs. According to our database, the RX 7700 XT is 27% ahead of the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB and less than 5% slower than the RTX 4070. Since the RTX 4060 Ti 8 and 16 GB share the same core specifications, the RX 7700 XT could also outrun the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB by a similar margin.
That said, since HXL’s leak doesn’t give a precise Time Spy Graphics figure, the RX 7700 XT could be slightly more/less performant than shown here. Whatever the case may be, one thing is quite clear: If the retail RX 7700 XT performs as claimed, AMD has a winner on its hands, as the GPU not only outclasses the RTX 4060 Ti but could also hang with the RTX 4070 after some overclocking.
