Following Netmarble's recent financial report confirming the development of a new Game of Thrones game, the first trailer for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad was unveiled on November 14. The trailer offers brief glimpses of gameplay and provides an enticing preview of the wintry, dark atmosphere:
Fan favorite Jon Snow can be seen in the trailer, but will not be playable. Instead, players will take on the role of a member of the Night's Watch and fight for survival beyond the Wall. Fans can look forward not only to a trip to the North, but also to battles with giants, white walkers and other creatures from the world of Westeros. The battle scenes shown are reminiscent of modern hack-and-slash titles such as God of War and suggest that close combat with axes and swords will be the main focus here.
According to Netmarble's website, the GoT RPG is scheduled for release in 2025, with the financial report suggesting a release in the first half of the year. Unfortunately for many fans, the game is initially slated for release exclusively on Android and iOS. While the financial report also lists the title under PC games, there has been no official confirmation or details about a potential PC release.
Fans want an AAA game for PC and consoles
On Reddit, the excitement about the upcoming release is still limited. The majority of players do not seem to have much interest in a mobile game, which is hardly surprising. With games like Game of Thrones: Legends and Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming already available for mobile devices, fans are eagerly awaiting a fully-fledged AAA title for PC and consoles. As a PC release is a distinct possibility, it remains to be seen whether Game of Thrones: Kingsroad could be that game.
