Snapdragon 8 Elite allegedly runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 FPS via emulation
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite comes with a much improved GPU, the Adreno 830. The SoC was previously shown to run the Red Dead Redemption PC port through an emulator at 160 FPS. Now, X user @cozy_OSS claims that it can allegedly emulate Cyberpunk 2077 locked at 60 FPS with the visual quality dialed to Low and the resolution at 720p.
The X user has also shown a small clip, which highlights the FPS being locked to 60. However, the slightly choppy nature of the video suggests that AMD FSR and frame generation tech have made it possible. But then again, the Snapdragon 8 Elite was shown to be more capable than the Radeon 780M in 3DMark Steel Nomad Light, and that iGPU can easily handle Cyberpunk 2077 at 720p on Low preset (Legion Go curr. $549 on Amazon).
Another point worth noting is that the game is thought to be emulated using a pre-release PC emulator developed Eggns, and it's possible that the performance could be even better on a more optimized emulator. Other X users point out that the last-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can run the game at 30 FPS on the same Low preset with emulators like Mobox, Winlator, and Horizon.
Moreover, the previous reports hint that the Snapdragon 8 Elite is quite capable of emulating PC games. Overall, it's said to offer about two times better emulation performance than its predecessor. With proper support from the developers, native ports of major AAA titles could run well on the new SoC. However, given the fragmented hardware ecosystem that Android has, it might take a while for that to become a reality.
