The Castlevania series is undoubtedly one of the most influential in gaming history. Since its debut in 1986, players have faced Dracula and his demonic horde. Known for its challenging combat, platforming and exploration, the series often features non-linear level design, where new abilities unlock previously unreachable areas.
Released in 1997, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is considered a defining title of the Metroidvania genre alongside Metroid. In the 2000s and early 2010s, the series experimented with a new style through Lords of Shadow. However, since the mixed reception of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014, fans have been eagerly awaiting a new installment. With Netflix’s successful adaptations keeping interest high, recent rumors suggest a AAA Castlevania revival could finally arrive in 2025.
According to gaming journalist Daniel Camilo, Konami plans to announce a new AAA Castlevania game in 2025. Camilo, a regular contributor to GamesIndustry.biz, cites "different reliable sources" and is "fairly confident" about the information. In recent years, Konami has revived several classic franchises, including Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, making Castlevania’s potential return a logical next step.
Fans still skeptical
On Reddit, rumors of a possible AAA Castlevania remake have been met with mixed reactions. Many remain skeptical of Camilo’s claims, as he has no track record as a leaker and hasn’t provided concrete sources. Still, interest in a new Castlevania game is strong. Fans are already speculating about potential gameplay concepts, with ideas ranging from 3D action-adventures to a return to the classic Metroidvania style.
